A glamping dome is one of the quickest ways for a lodge, guest farm or wine farm to add a room that guests remember. There is no building project: the dome stands on a raised wooden deck, the bathroom and services are fitted inside, and a fully completed suite is ready in about one to two weeks.
Here is what a 6 m dome costs, what guests in South Africa pay for a night in a dome right now, and what to check before you order.
What a 6 m glamping dome costs
Most lodges and farms choose the 6-metre dome. You can buy it in two ways:
Dome Only, from R150,000
The 6 m structure: aluminium frame, PVC cover, interior insulation, a transparent panoramic section with privacy curtains, a solar extractor fan and a door. Your own team builds the deck, bathroom and services. Set up in about 1–2 days.
Completed suite, from R350,000
The dome on a raised wooden deck, with separate bedroom and bathroom areas, a tiled bathroom with shower, sink and toilet, electrical wiring, plumbing, connection to your nearby water and sewage points, and installation. About 1–2 weeks on site.
Transport is quoted for your location, and installation of the Dome Only option is quoted separately. The connection price for the completed suite assumes your water and sewage points are close to the dome. For a signature suite, the wood & glass dome starts at R450,000 and is made to your plan. All the inclusions and photos are on the glamping domes page.

What guests pay for a night in a dome
Dome stays in South Africa are priced like boutique rooms, not campsites. These are published rates for two people for the last week of October 2026:
| Dome stay | Area | Per night for two |
|---|---|---|
| Pom Gratz Tranquility Dome (self-catering, off-grid) | Tesselaarsdal, Overberg | R1,950 in the week, R2,250 on Friday and Saturday |
| Karoo Dome | Graaff-Reinet | R2,800 |
| Forest Dome (bed and breakfast) | Storms River, Tsitsikamma | R2,800 |
| Dome Glamping SA (deck kitchen and wood-fired hot tub) | Paarl | From R3,000 |
Rates from the properties’ SA-Venues and LekkeSlaap listings, checked on 26 October 2026. Rates change with the season and specials.
A dome with a view, a proper bathroom and an extra or two, such as a hot tub or breakfast, sells for roughly R2,000 to R3,000 a night.
A simple earnings illustration
Take one completed dome suite let at R2,000 a night, the lower end of the rates above. What it brings in depends mostly on how many nights it is booked:
| Nights booked a year | Occupancy | Room revenue at R2,000 a night |
|---|---|---|
| 90 | About 25% | R180,000 |
| 120 | About 33% | R240,000 |
| 180 | About 50% | R360,000 |
An illustration, not a forecast. Figures are before cleaning, linen, electricity, breakfast, staff and booking-platform commission. Your rate and occupancy depend on the location, the season, the view and how you market the dome.
Hold those figures against a completed suite from R350,000 plus transport, and you have the basic sum most lodges and farms do before they order. Because the dome is not a permanent building, it can also be taken down and moved later if your plans change.
Which size suits your guests?
- 5 m dome with a queen or king bed, for couples
- 6 m dome with room for a king bed, a bathroom and a seating area; the loft version adds a second bed above the bathroom and kitchenette and sleeps up to four
- 7 m and 8 m domes with a larger loft or two beds downstairs, for families and small groups
The prices on this page are for the 6 m dome. Ask us for a quotation on the other sizes.

How the set-up works
- Choose the spot. Pick the view first, then check access for delivery and the distance to water, sewage and electricity.
- Prepare the deck. The dome must stand on a raised wooden deck so rainwater drains away and air circulates underneath. The deck is included in the completed suite.
- Install the dome. About 1–2 days for the structure; about 1–2 weeks for a completed suite with the bathroom and services.
- Furnish and photograph it. Good photos of the panoramic front at sunset do much of the selling on booking sites.
What to check before you order
Zoning and approvals
Every municipality has its own rules for guest accommodation, and they differ between farms and residential stands. Ask your local planning office what your zoning allows and whether plans need to be submitted.
Title deed and estate rules
Check for title-deed conditions, and the rules of any estate, conservancy or body corporate, before you place a dome.
Services
Note how far the spot is from water, sewage and electricity points. Shorter runs keep the connection simple and the cost down.
Access
The dome, the deck materials and our team need to reach the spot. Tell us about steep tracks, river crossings or narrow gates in advance.
